Apr 19, 2016 · COST: I can buy chuck or round roasts for less than $3/lb. Ground meat at the store is $4.5/lb or so. Contamination: IF there is a sanitary issue with meat, buying it pre-ground will only make it worse. If a primal of meat is contaminated at the source, then ground at the source, all meat that primal was mixed with is also contaminated.
